Inspiration

What inspired you to pursue watercolor?

As a very young girl, who lived in the Dominican Republic for the first 4 years of my life, I used art as a vessel to convey my thoughts and ideas, at a time when my peers only understood English. As time went on, I realized that drawing was one thing I felt genuinely passionate about and would use this skill to make my ideas come to life through Architecture.

Extension of Grand Central Terminal reimagined. The theme behind the clocks in every column is because GCT is home to the world's largest Tiffany clock. The teal ceiling is the direct extension of the unique ceiling inside of GCT, with a ceiling mural so impressive, some consider it an interpretation of heaven itself, even though the images painted on it are meant to represent Orion, Taurus, and Gemini. - Courtesy of Angeline Contreras

Time Management

How did you manage to maintain your time?

I managed to maintain my hobbies by incorporating water coloring into my projects at work and school. My paintings are then transformed into final renderings or are used as conceptual ideas. Or, on my free time during the weekends, I would take a day to unwind to either draw things that caught my attention or ride my bike as far as I could.

Students are introduced to selected short stories to diagram and interpret. Investigations of spatial sequences, narrative, structure, light, sound color, and form are all used to generate unique points of departure for the longer, architectural design projects that follow. The story I was interpreting for this project was called "The Story Of Isura"; the approach I took to decoding this city was to break it down into two worlds: the world of the mortal, and the world of the gods. However, each would coexist in perfect harmony. - Courtesy of Angeline Contreras
