PneuCell
Concrete Plant Park Bioplastic Research and Development Facility
PneuCell is a bioplastic research and development facility operating at the intersection of urban infrastructure and ecological systems, of professional production and public education. The project, located at the edge of Concrete Plant Park in the Bronx, applies the flexibility of a computation-based, cellular design language to provide solidity and porosity responding to an intersectional site condition. A bioplastic pneumatic skin shields the building interior from the noise and air pollution of Bronx traffic systems. A cellular structural system opens to let in the sounds and views of vegetation and wildlife in the park, engaging users with ecological systems.
